ADVERT DESIGN

This is a rough sketch/design of the advert promoting my artist 'Kensho'. The foreground consists of an image of John (model that I will be using). The symbolic elements within the image will be the rose/flower in his hair with a leaf attached. The rose element is intertextually linked to the digipack design (which contains many roses) whilst the leaf directly links to the music video of 'Forest'. In post production I will be altering the filter of the image and adding text and synergistic links to social media and sound cloud as well as spotify. the album's title will be written on the neck of the model with white paint therefore creating an organic effect. The copy will be systematically placed on the leaves within the image. Another intertextual link within the poster joining it to the album is the fact that I will be using paint strokes which the copy of the social media icons will be placed. The entire poster will have a set colour scheme which corresponds to the colour-scheme of the album cover.

DIGI PACK DESIGNS

These are some images from the digipack designs promoting my artist 'Kensho'. The album design will consist of multimedia approaches such as abstract painting/illustration, photography and mixed media through the use of photo shop (digital art). The theme of the album involves roses and death, which is in reference to 'love and death' which is a theme throughout the lyrics. The photo shoot will consist of images of a hand holding a rose which is fresh and beautiful verses a dead/wilting one. Both of the shots are of the mirror connoting trouble with identity and the mental.

FKA TWIGS DIGIPAK ANALYSIS

FOCUS GROUP

Our focus group consisted of around 10 people who are of the age group of our target audience (15 years +)
within our presentation we discussed the visual aspects of our video as well as the create approach, production approach, and the main plot of the music video. At the end of the presentation we received a couple questions that the focus group wasn't sure about/the suggestions they had.
Q: How many actors will there be in the video?
there will be only 1 actor, he is going to be 18 years old.

ALTERATION TO MUSIC VIDEO IDEA (contingency plan)

After revisiting the 'initial ideas' power point we decided to change certain aspects of the video idea such as the installation for the visuals due to the fact that the initial idea may not keep the audience entertained for an extended period of time as the subject was going to be statically sitting within the installation, we would have to have many insert shots to keep engaged. Therefore instead we will be making the video more of an enigma to the audience as the model will be involved in performance art as he will be spray painting on several layered PVC sheets set up as an installation. The entire room will be white, therefore the paint will show up properly (instead of initially planned black background). We will still have insert shots and the idea is based around the lyrics of the song "Its my forest!" therefore he will be creating his own 'forest' with the spray paint. The final shots will reveal the art piece. We are still keeping the aspects of plants within the installation and maybe even white blocks.

shots/lyrics intial plan

Lyrics / shots

“You think it’s bad, that I lost myself in the forest.”

Wide, straight angle – slow track forward (dolly). The shot fades in as the lyrics begin making the sound synchronous to the visuals we will be involving the model/subject and the indoor installation set up.

“You should be glad that I came one time.”

As this lyric finishes, the straight tracking will be altered. And begin roaming around the subject interweaving with the installation.

“You think it’s bad that I got lost in the forest, yeah”

As this lyric finishes, the straight tracking will be altered. And begin roaming around the subject interweaving with the installation.

“You should be glad that I came one more time”

As this lyric finishes, the straight tracking will be altered. And begin roaming around the subject interweaving with the installation. During the build-up of the momentum the camera angle will be altered becoming a low angle empowering the subject just as the beat drops.

(Beat drop) insert shot from Norway introduced by a light flash. And possibly writing on visuals. During this shot the beat becomes powerful and fast, the visuals will correlation synchronously to the score through post-production.

“You think it’s bad that I lost my mind through the forest”

At this point, the score becomes slower – reverting to its original pace. To contrast the previous powerful pace, we will once again revert to slow paced movement however, the set up will be altered. The subject will not be in the shot at this point. The projection will be on the leaves of the plant.

“You think I’m mad…cause it took my time”

At this point, there will slow motion abstract imagery, slow motion visuals of flower petals. Hopefully, the projection will show on up on the petals producing shadows in the background. This will be a close up straight angle shot.

“You think it’s bad that I’m here in the forest”

The visuals will quickly shift back to the original installation set up featuring the subject who will be seen as uneasy. There will be layering in post-production where the subject is the only aspect of the shot that is moving. We will affect the footage timing in postproduction and layer in Final Cut Pro.

“You should be glad… got a peace of mind”

(Beat drop) insert shot from Norway introduced by a light flash. And possibly writing on visuals.

“You should be glad that I got lost in the forest”

There will be a tracking out (reverse of the opening scene) in a wide shot, fast pace building up momentum into a close up of the props – plant.

“Move my mind inside the forest… (Unrecognisable murmur duration: 24 seconds)”

During the 24 seconds there will be a mash up of inserts, all fast pace and vigorous. Some of the shots may be disturbing as there will be shots of plant pots smashing/cutting leaves on plants.

“IT’S MY FOREST” X5

Light flickering and strobe lighting alternating between long shots and close ups/extreme close ups of the model.

FOCUS GROUP FEEDBACK / ADAPTATIONS

When presenting the initial ideas to the focus group, we covered most areas of logistics and the vision for the music video. The feedback we received was quite positive with no major setbacks, however the focus group did mention that the location of filming indoors was unclear therefore we decided to look more into it and see what is possible and accessible. We decided to utilise the facilities and ask for permission to film the video within the dance studio in our school – the black walls will absorb the light from the projection therefore the projection will mainly be on the model creating the desired effect. Another aspect we decided to adapt was the amount of mood lights, we will now only produce and use two fluorescent/LED light strips to frame the shot. We decided to keep the song and most aspects the same as we have been evaluating the idea and developing it artistically making it attainable.
